Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a LucasArts video game and part of the The Force Unleashed multimedia project; other The Force Unleashed project developers and publishers include Dark Horse ComicsLegoHasbro, and Del Rey Books.[1][2] The Force Unleashedwas developed for the PlayStation 2,[3] PlayStation 3,[4] Wii,[4] and Xbox 360[5] consoles and on the iPhone OS,[6] second-generation N-Gage,[7] Nintendo DS,[8] PlayStation Portable,[3] and Java-equipped mobile phone[9] handhelds. The game was released in North Americaon September 16, in Australia and Southeast Asia on September 17, and in Europe on September 19, 2008.[10] A PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 demo became available for download on August 21 and LucasArts also plans to offer downloadable content for those two systems.[11][12]

The project bridges the two Star Wars trilogies and introduces a new protagonist, Starkiller, as Darth Vader's secret apprentice. Reviews offered mixed response, praising The Force Unleashed for its compelling story, robust physics, and impressive art, but also citing frustratinggameplay. Despite these mixed reviews, the game was a bestseller in the United States and Australia, with over one million copies sold its debut month.[13]
