Starkiller / Galen Marek

  • Samuel Witwer as Starkiller - The child of two Jedi, Starkiller becomes Darth Vader's secret apprentice and is dispatched by his master to kill the Jedi who survived Palpatine's Jedi purge.[33][21] Although acting as a villain, Starkiller is "really just [a] damaged kid".[34] Developers decided not to give Starkiller a name in the game, but the novelization gives his name as Galen Marek.[25][35] Although Starkiller starts as Vader's apprentice, a focus of the game is to allow the character to evolve into "something more heroic, something greater".[33]Witwer secured the role by demonstrating to developers his deep understanding of the character;[36] in portraying Starkiller, Witwer brought many new ideas about the character and imbued him with a sense of humanity.[34] Developers tried to make Starkiller not so evil that players would have difficulty connecting to him.[34] The Force Unleashed's character's name is a homage to "Annikin Starkiller", the original name of the character that eventually became Luke Skywalker.[37][38]
  • Matt Sloan as Darth Vader - Starkiller's master, who discovers Starkiller as a child and raised him.[33] In addition to dispatching Starkiller to kill the remaining Jedi, Vader also presents plans to unite with Starkiller to overthrow the Emperor, although there are "twists and turns" in this scheme.[33] The events depicted in The Force Unleashed are "pivotal" to Darth Vader's history and development.[39]

Juno Eclipse

  • Nathalie Cox as Juno Eclipse - Rogue Shadow's pilot and Starkiller's love interest.[40][41] Eclipse was not originally part of the game; early concepts had the apprentice as an older character who develops a connection with a young Princess Leia.[42] Lucas, uncomfortable with this idea, encouraged the developers to create a love interest.[42] The apprentice, who has had limited interaction with women when the game begins, does not at first know how to act around her.[42] Her introduction early in the game allows the relationship with Starkiller to develop, and her inclusion helps "recapture that rich ensemble feel of the original Star Wars".[42] According to Sean Williams, who wrote the novelization, the romantic storyline is the key to The Force Unleashed.[39] The name "Juno Eclipse" was originally proposed as a name for the character eventually called "Asajj Ventress" — it was rejected for Ventress as insufficiently villainous.[42] The Force Unleashed project lead Haden Blackman brought the name back for the mythic quality of the name "Juno" and the duality suggested by an "eclipse".[42] Cox, in addition to strongly resembling the character's concept art, had "integrity and poise" appropriate to Juno Eclipse that helped the actor secure the role.[36]
  • Cully Fredericksen as General Rahm Kota - A Jedi Master who provides Starkiller with additional insight into the Force.[41] Developers realized early that Starkiller would require insight into the Force from someone other than Darth Vader; after rejecting the idea of this coming from the spirit of Qui-Gon Jinn or some version of Darth Plagueis, they decided to fill this role with one of the Starkiller's Jedi opponents.[42] The character was conceived as a "tough-as-nails" contrast to Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi.[42] Senior concept artist Amy Beth Christianson drew upon samurai influences for Kota's appearance.[34][42] The character changed little after being conceived; Fredericksen's own traits made the character tougher.[42]Fredericksen was the first actor cast for the project.[36]

Killzone 2

In time line, Killzone 2 follows Killzone: Liberation, and Killzone, and appears to take place entirely on Helghan, the home-world of the Helghast who invaded an Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) colony in previous Killzone installments. Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA is taking the fight to the enemy's home world of Helghan. The ISA goal is direct: capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt. Assuming the role of Sev, a battle-hardened veteran and a member of the special forces unit known as the Legion, players will lead a group of highly trained soldiers on a mission to take out the Helghast threat. For Sev and his squad, the invasion of Helghan is just the beginning. During the invasion of Helghan, Sev's unit is deployed behind enemy lines to assist the main invasion force. Tasked with securing Pyrrhus, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a formidable enemy on their home planet. Not only have they adjusted to the planet's hostile conditions, they have also harnessed a source of power they can now use against the ISA - the frightening ability to control surgical lightning storms. Sev discovers his squad is not just fighting enemy forces – their fiercest opponent may be the planet itself. Additional details on the backstory to the game can be found here.

Tomb Rider Underworld

Tomb Raider: Underworld, also known as Tomb Raider 8, is the eighth game in the Tomb Raider series, released on 18 November 2008 in North America and on 21 November 2008 in Europe. It is the third game in the series to be developed by Crystal Dynamics.

It resumes the adventure from where Tomb Raider: Legend left off and addresses elements of the plot left unexplained in Legend andTomb Raider: Anniversary, which are Crystal Dynamics' previous games in the series.[6]

Differences from previous iterations in the series are that Lara's environment will be an "interactive world that reacts and remembers", such that footprints left in the mud or mud transferred to Lara's knee from kneeling on the ground will be washed away by rain, the bodies of the foes she encounters will remain where she killed them, and any destruction to the environment she causes will be permanent.[7] According to creative director Eric Lindstrom, this is "to not only reward the player for the effect they're having on the world, but to give them navigational aids."[8] The game uses an animation blending system that allows Lara to interact dynamically with her environment, such as pushing foliage aside with one or two hands, depending on if she is carrying a weapon.[9] It also features a "hybrid lighting model that combines dynamic lights with carefully created light maps" and a weather system that changes the environment, for example, "If Lara’s negotiating a wet ledge she’s more apt to slip or lose grip," which makes "the environment ... her adversary" for a large part of the game.[7][10]

FarCry 2

Far Cry 2 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released on October 21, 2008in North America[3] and on October 23, 2008 in Europe[3] and Australia.[5] Crytek, developers of the original game, were not involved in the development of Far Cry 2. It was announced on January 3, 2008, that in addition to Microsoft Windows, Far Cry 2 would also be available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.[10]

Ubisoft has marketed Far Cry 2 as the true sequel to Far Cry, but the sequel has very few recognizable similarities to the original game. Instead, it features completely new characters and setting, as well as a new style of gameplay that has been dubbed "more realistic".[citation needed] The game takes place in a fictional modern-day Central African nation in a state of anarchy and civil war. The player takes control of a mercenary on a lengthy journey to locate and assassinate "The Jackal," a notorious arms dealer. On all platforms, Far Cry 2 received highly positive reviews from video game critics.

It is the third game in the Postal video game franchise, and is scheduled for release in North America in 2009 for Linux,[1] Mac OS X,[2] Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360. APlayStation 3 port was announced in later stages of development, which will probably be released shortly after the initial release.[3] The game was developed under the working title Postal 3: Catharsis until October 18, 2006, when the finalized title was revealed to be Postal III.[4][5]

Postal III will continue and expand upon the sandbox-style design of its predecessor, Postal², as well as include motion capturedperformances by a wide array of celebrities, including film stars and Playboy Playmates.[6] It has also been stated that Uwe Boll, director of the Postal film, will appear in the game.[7]

In Postal III, The Postal Dude emigrates to Paradise's sister town of Catharsis.[8] Unlike its predecessor, the game will not be based on theUnreal engine but rather on the Source engine. Also, Postal III will be a third-person shooter, rather than its predecessor Postal² which is aFirst-person shooter.

Early gameplay footage of the game being played at E3 2008 reveals new weapons such as "The Badgersaw", a nail bat, an M60 machine gun and the return of the gas can and matches from Postal 2. A new concept of weapon is a test lab monkey which will react to a laser pointed by the Postal Dude. Product manager Mike Jaret revealed in an interview that there will be "special vehicles" in the game.

The project bridges the two Star Wars trilogies and introduces a new protagonist, Starkiller, as Darth Vader's secret apprentice. Reviews offered mixed response, praising The Force Unleashed for its compelling story, robust physics, and impressive art, but also citing frustratinggameplay. Despite these mixed reviews, the game was a bestseller in the United States and Australia, with over one million copies sold its debut month.[13]
